When I began the gallery in 1969, there were only three or four galleries in the country that specialized in photography. Today there are about 450.

WHY DOES ONE COLLECT PHOTOGRAPHY?
People identify with the reality of the photographic image and it lets them form their own interpretations of this visually exciting medium. Photography as an art form is affordable, interesting, challenging and captivating.

HOW DOES ONE BECOME A PHOTOGRAPHY COLLECTOR?
The beginning collector should collect images that they relate to visually. They should read books about the history of photography and individual photographers, visit museums and galleries and, most importantly, ask questions. People who come into our gallery will find that we are there to spend time with them and help educate them. I recommend that people collect for pleasure rather than financial investment. Although the value of many photographs has risen dramatically over the years, I believe that collectors should first and foremost collect because they love the medium.

WHAT PHOTOGRAPHS DO YOU RECOMMEND FOR THE BEGINNING COLLECTOR?
Fine art photography is very affordable. You can purchase a wonderful photograph by an artist who is not well known for around $500. You can spend $15,000 on an Ansel Adams or $180,000 on an Edward Weston. Again, see as much as you can, read as much as you can, talk to a dealer and then decide where your budget and your interests are compatible.
