Berenice Abbott

1898 - 1991

Born in Ohio in 1898, Abbott first became established as a commercial portrait photographer in Paris and then in New York. In addition to her substantial body of work on themes ranging from science to the changing face of New York, she was a progressive teacher of photographic technique, an inventor of photgraphic equipment and champion to the work of Eugene Atget.
