Berenice Abbott (1898 – 1991)
Born in Ohio, Berenice Abbott first became established as a commercial portrait photographer in Paris and then New York. In addition to her substantial body of work on themes ranging from science to the changing face of New York, she was a progressive teacher of photographic technique, an inventor of photographic equipment and champion of the work of Eugene Atget.
